Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum follows the framework for the National Curriculum for England (NCfE). The NCfE provides an entitlement curriculum up to the end of Key Stage 3, which means that students in each age cohort will study the same subjects, regardless of their background, nationality or level of academic attainment. In Key Stages 4 and 5, the curriculum adds options to a smaller entitlement core.
We celebrate diversity and we ensure that all children learn about their own background and identity, whilst learning about the history of the UAE and international outlook.
The approach to ensuring that students gain a truly international outlook, consistent with the school’s vision and mission, involves:
- celebrating the diverse nationalities who live in Dubai
- assemblies that point students to aspects of life in Dubai
- curriculum accommodations in NCfE subjects, that broaden students’ global knowledge and experience
- cross-curricular challenges each term
- honouring the culture of the UAE and the Arab world, through assembly and the use of the Heritage Centre, playing and singing the National Anthem, making cultural visits and inviting speakers
- studying the role of the United Nations in promoting peace and international understanding
- partnering schools on other continents, with online exchanges between students
- studying the way that communication media – including social media – work in different countries
- honouring the origin and identity of every student and staff member in the school
